The Full Story
Founded in 2023, Alegría Ensemble is a dynamic piano trio forged from a shared passion for mastering the great works of piano trio repertoire and honing the art of music collaboration at the highest level. With the guidance of renowned musicians such as cellist Marcy Rosen (Mendelssohn Quartet) and violinist Daniel Phillips (Orion Quartet), the trio has developed a sound and ethos that resonate deeply with audiences.
Their global roots—Ricky from New York, Sara from Italy, and Chloe from the UK—bring diverse musical perspectives that complement each other and set an example of unity through music. They strive to use their concerts as a platform to express the profound sense of togetherness that music fosters.
Their journey began with an original family concert project: Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals, arranged for piano trio. Featuring interactive activities and tasks led by each member, the project captivated audiences and earned acclaim. WQXR invited Alegría to perform at their Classical Kids Fair two years running, where the show was so well-received it overflowed the performance space. The performance featured in a double page spread of the New York Daily News.
In 2024 Alegría Ensemble was honored to join the roster of the non-profit organization Young Musicians of Westchester, performing a series of concerts across the region. These performances showcased the group's commitment to contemporary music. Collaborating with composers from Long Island, they workshopped and premiered new works, finding immense satisfaction in the creative dialogue and the unique opportunities it afforded.
At the heart of their performances is a dedication to connecting with audiences on a personal level. They believe that verbally sharing insights about the music they play enhances the concert experience, and they carefully craft programs that balance beloved classics with innovative contemporary pieces. From Joseph Haydn to Dobrinka Tabakova, Alegría embraces variety and aims to offer something for everyone.
Music education is central to their mission. Building on the success of their Saint-Saëns project, Alegría is developing a new interactive concert concept: pairing a traditionally classical piece with an original story written in collaboration with an author. Narrated by the trio during the performance, this project seeks to make less accessible classical works relatable and engaging for young audiences, bridging the gap between tradition and creativity.
Beyond their work as a trio, Alegría aims to expand their artistic horizons by collaborating with other musicians and artists. While the trio remains the core of Alegría Ensemble, their vision includes a fluid performing roster that allows for inventive programming and diverse concert experiences.
